Circumnavigate the Killer Mountain
Nanga Parbat (8,126m) is the ninth-highest mountain on Earth and the westernmost of the 8,000-metre peaks. Known as the "Killer Mountain" for its treacherous climbing history, it dominates the western end of the Himalaya with a massif of staggering proportions. The Nanga Parbat Circular Trek takes you around the base of this colossal mountain, revealing its dramatically different faces — from the Rupal Face (the largest mountain face on Earth at 4,600 vertical meters) to the glaciated Rakhiot Face on the north.
This is a genuine wilderness trek through some of the most remote and dramatically beautiful terrain in the Himalaya. The route passes through isolated Gujar and Shina-speaking villages, dense pine and birch forests, alpine meadows carpeted with wildflowers, and high passes offering breathtaking panoramic views of Nanga Parbat and its satellite peaks. Unlike the popular Fairy Meadows short trip, the circular trek requires serious fitness and commitment, traversing passes above 4,000 meters.
The trek begins from the Rupal Valley in Astore District, where the sheer south face of Nanga Parbat towers impossibly above. It then crosses through the Mazeno area and descends to the Rakhiot Valley on the northern side, where Fairy Meadows provides a legendary campsite beneath the mountain. This is not a mountaineering expedition but a challenging high-altitude trek accessible to fit and experienced trekkers.
