About This Trek

Patundas (also spelled Patundas or Patondas) is a hidden alpine meadow perched at approximately 3,800 metres above the Hunza Valley in the Nagar region of Gilgit-Baltistan. While the Hunza Valley's main highlights — Karimabad, Attabad Lake, Passu — are well known, Patundas remains one of the region's best-kept secrets: a flower-filled plateau offering 360-degree panoramic views of some of the Karakoram's most spectacular peaks, including Rakaposhi (7,788m), Diran (7,266m), Golden Peak/Spantik (7,027m), and Ultar Sar (7,388m).

The trek begins from the village of Hoper (Hopar) in the Nagar Valley, climbing through terraced farmland, apricot orchards, and birch forests before emerging onto the open meadows. The trail is well-defined but steep in sections, making this a moderate trek suitable for fit hikers without technical experience. At the meadow, the views are extraordinary — you stand at eye level with a ring of 7,000-metre peaks, with the entire Hunza Valley spread out below like a map. In summer, the meadow is carpeted with wildflowers.

Patundas can be done as a challenging day hike or, better, as a 2-day trek with a night camping on the meadow. Waking up at Patundas to the sunrise lighting up Rakaposhi's summit is one of the most spectacular experiences available to trekkers in northern Pakistan. This trek is an ideal add-on for travelers already visiting the Hunza Valley who want a taste of high-altitude trekking without a major expedition commitment.
